Government extends access to testing for those with symptoms of COVID-19 across England to additional front-line workers and members of their household

Introduced by

Department of Health and Social Care

Targeted at

Front-line workers

Announced on 17 April 2020

Stated aims

To allow those currently unable to return to work because they or a family or household member have symptoms of COVID-19 to know whether they do have the virus

The list of front-line workers eligible for testing is extended to include, among others, the police, the fire service, front-line benefits workers and those working with vulnerable children and adults. Where there is extra testing capacity, testing will be expanded to other groups of workers that need it, including those delivering critical medical, energy, utility, transport and food supplies.
