Rishi Sunak announces that this year’s Spending Review will be conducted as a 1-year review

Summary

Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Prime Minister Boris Johnson announce a 1-year Spending Review (rather than the usual 3 or 4), setting departments’ resource and capital budgets for 2021–22, and the Devolved Administrations’ block grants for the same period. The government press release states that this decision is 'to prioritise the response to COVID-19, and our focus on supporting jobs'. Multi-year NHS and schools' resource settlements will be 'fully funded' as will 'priority' infrastructure projects. The precise date for the Review will be confirmed shortly, but will be in the 'last weeks' of November 2020.
