To ensure the NHS and other public services have the resources needed to tackle the impacts of COVID-19

Summary

Initially set at £5bn, this is an emergency fund to assist with pressures in the NHS, support local authorities to manage pressures on social care and support vulnerable people, and help deal with pressures on other public services. On 19 March 2020 it is announced that £1.6bn from the fund is to be allocated to local authorities to help deal with pressures across services (including in adult social care) and £1.3bn to enhance NHS discharge processes. The size of the fund will be reviewed as the situation develops, to ensure all necessary resources are made available.
